The year has officially started and it’s back to school, work, and early morning dog walks. It’s still dark when we set out, the streets lights flicker off just as we reach the track (our usual morning walk) and then the birds wake up. They take flight above us, small black silhouettes against a navy blue sky.
The start of the year has been a mixture of blue skies and grey days in Paris. Our best walk was definitely a late afternoon one to the Bois de Boulogne. It was pleasantly chilly. The sky was an icy winter blue, the huge clouds outlined in golden sunlight. The trees were haunting in their bare beauty.
We circled the lake and watched the swans glide along. The gosling has changed. It has white feathers and a white neck but its face is still grey. It made me a little melancholy to see the passage of time marked so clearly - time passes so fast, too fast.
Which is part of the reason I wanted to start this Substack, to try and record all those small moments in the day that make up a life, and to force me to pause and notice them. And, perhaps, create more of them.
I hope you’ll join me as I record these moments and maybe add some of your own in the comments.
